2018 Site Updates
Road to Destiny
January 7th, 2018 Fiction
Here's the first update of the new year. I certainly haven't been as productive last year than I would've liked, but I did learn a fair bit. Since my creativity comes and goes, forcing myself to get stuff done doesn't really work so I'm just going to continue as before. I do feel more confident about my writing though which should help.
Updates have become more blogish and outrageous recently and will tend to be that way. It's just more fun! An archive has all the ones from 2017 because they won't be included as previous updates on the main page anymore. As for this one, I improved the navigation bar and added some external icons. Neat! I haven't really kept up with all of that stuff. More importantly, I finished a new Nightflower episode and replaced the placeholder with this:
Enticing Business
In Episode 8, Jenny meets a merchant who offers her a ride which she naturally accepts. He misinterprets her reactions and mentions the possibility of a lucrative business opportunity in the capital, though an exciting proposal is also made by The Merchant.
This episode gets things going again. I guess it might be a little bit too much of a coincidence, but hey, Jenny deserves to get lucky once in a while, and it makes for such a nice lead-in to the next story arc. The language will also get a tad raunchier over the next few episodes because it's supposed to reflect her attitude to some degree.
Perennial Quest
January 27th, 2018 RPG
All right, I'll do updates a little differently from now on. I'm still sticking to Sunday for the Nightflower updates, but other sections will get an update whenever. I wanted to make an update two weeks ago but didn't manage to finish the next Nightflower episode for it. I did upload the first version of my browser RPG Nymph Quest at that time though, and I was a bit obsessed with it the following week too, so the episode remained unfinished. Oops. It should be available tomorrow.
The idea for Nymph Quest is quite old. A long time ago, I attempted to create a fantasy CRPG, but I abandoned it when it became clear it wouldn't turn out the way I envisioned it. Later on, I wanted to reuse some concepts for a simpler browser game, a straightforward dungeon crawl to rescue abducted damsels who are only too happy to show their abundant gratitude once freed from their chains... and clothes. Since saving progress wasn't really possible, it never got further than a character creation menu.
I'm a digital packrat, so when I found the files for it while trying to clean up my HD a bit, I had to see if I couldn't do something with it now. With HTML5 local storage making it possible to save data, I started to play around with it and couldn't stop myself until I had a very primitive character and combat system working. In the process, I also learned about some neat CSS stuff and improved the navigation bar even more. Hopefully it works with all browsers.
The game is obviously very unfinished in its current state, but I'm probably going to spend quite a bit of time on it. I'm mostly doing class design and figuring out the underlying mechanics at the moment, so it might take a while for the next version. If the game system ends up working well, I'll see what else I can do with it.
A Nymph by Any Other Name
January 28th, 2018 Fiction
This Nightflower episode also has a nymph theme. I replaced the placeholder with this:
Back to the River
In Episode 9, Jenny wants to take another swim in the river she grew up by before they leave it behind. Darrell comments on her propensity for getting wet, and she doesn't mind playing the part of The Water Nymph.
This episode was fairly easy to write once I figured out the exact sequence of events. It ended up quite different in parts from my draft, but I'm getting used to that. Most episodes will probably be similar: lots of sexual activity with a bit of character development and story thrown in.
One More Time
February 11th, 2018 Fiction
Yay, I made it to double digit episode numbers! This one wraps up things with Darrell and leads into the next story arc. It was supposed to be ready last week, but, as usual, I didn't manage to finish it in time. I'll try to write more at the start of the week from now on.
I replaced the old placeholder with this:
New Horizons
In Episode 10, the capital isn't much farther away, and Darrell tries to convince Jenny to have some fun one last time before The Arrival.
I had nothing planned for this episode, but simply putting characters into a situation and seeing what happens actually seems to work.
New Arrival
February 25th, 2018 Fiction
I actually started writing this episode earlier, but I was feeling down and uninspired so it was slow going, and it also ended up as one of the longer episodes. I've already begun the next one though, so there's a decent chance it will be ready in a week.
I replaced the old placeholder with this:
In Episode 11, Jenny learns a few surprising details about becoming a courtesan in the capital, told to her by an irresistible girl she meets in The Courtesans Guild.
There wasn't even a courtesans guild at first. I don't remember how the events were supposed to unfold back then, but a guild just made so much more sense. And then one day, Alexia just popped into my head, naked but with a fully formed personality. She's such a fun character and opened up some nice story possibilities. It's hard to imagine this part of the story without her. And I just couldn't resist the princess thing, especially since it wasn't planned and developed naturally.
A Dress to Impress
May 20th, 2018 Fiction
Well, I started to feel really bad before I was able to complete this episode, so I played mostly MMOs, RIFT in particular, since the last update. I still feel bad, but I've been able to get back into writing somewhat, so here's the next episode.
I replaced the old placeholder with this:
In Episode 12, Alexia helps Jenny take care of a few important Preparations.
I actually split this episode in two because it just got too long. This one sets up some things for the future, and the next one is basically one long sex scene.
Bye Bye Space Cowboy
December 9th, 2018 Games
No, I'm not dead yet, but WildStar sure is! I read that it was going to be shut down and then forgot all about it until I saw a reminder the day before. I didn't like WildStar that much, mostly because of its combat system, and I hadn't played it in quite a while, but I wanted to see my character one last time, so I reinstalled it and logged in a few hours before the shutdown.
I was pleasantly surprised the game ran smoothly on the highest graphics preset. I remember having massive frame rate issues, with one setting I can't recall being particularly problematic. Buying one of the bikini variants also worked fine, unlike the last time I tried. As I started taking screenshots, I noticed the results were much better than I expected, and I regret not logging in earlier and doing a world tour. Oh well, I'm glad I got a few nice shots of my character at least. They can all be found in the small WildStar gallery I added to my list of game galleries.
So that was a week ago, but I wanted to refine my site a bit too. I made some minor modifications to the design and structure, and added both a proper full size display for large images as well as an alternative gallery view. There should also be more updates again from here on out, but probably not with any regularity.
